Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior DC Consultant to manage a book of defined contribution retirement plans and provide consulting support to plan sponsors, advisors, and internal teams. This role will focus on full A–Z plan administration, compliance work, and client relationship management for a portfolio of small to mid-sized retirement plans.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in retirement plan administration and strong client-facing consulting skills. This position requires a professional who can manage complex plan administration tasks, communicate effectively with clients and advisors, and oversee annual plan work including testing, compliance filings, and plan design consulting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of approximately 85–90 retirement plans, primarily small to mid-sized defined contribution plans.
- Ensure timely completion of annual administration tasks including compliance testing, reporting, and regulatory filings.
- Prepare Forms 5500 and other government filings.
- Perform contribution calculations, cross-testing, and year-end plan valuations.
- Review loan, hardship, and distribution transactions while coordinating with junior staff who assist with processing.
- Maintain direct relationships with plan sponsors, advisors, and recordkeepers while providing consulting support on plan administration matters.
- Lead annual client review meetings and present testing results, plan performance, and corrective actions when needed.
- Provide consulting on plan design including Safe Harbor, cross-tested/new comparability plans, and eligibility or vesting changes.
- Coordinate with advisors and recordkeepers on plan administration matters including audits, DFVCP filings, and plan restatements.
- Interpret plan documents and ensure plans are administered according to ERISA and regulatory requirements.
- Manage timelines and deliverables for assigned plans while maintaining consistent client communication.
- Assist with complex plan administration matters such as plan mergers, late filings, and correction programs.
- Collaborate with internal team members including assistants who support consultants with plan administration work.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 7–10+ years of experience working in the qualified retirement plan industry with progressive growth in responsibility.
- Strong experience performing full A–Z retirement plan administration including testing, year-end workups, and compliance filings.
- ASPPA designation required with additional credentials such as ERPA, QKA, or QPA strongly preferred.
- Strong client relationship and consulting skills with the ability to communicate complex retirement plan concepts clearly.
- Experience with plan design consulting including Safe Harbor, cross-tested plans, and other advanced plan structures.
- Experience with compliance testing including rate group and cross-tested plans.
- Knowledge of DFVCP filings, plan mergers, and complex regulatory situations preferred.
- Experience using ASC administration software and Ft. Williams document systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and retirement plan administration software systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain strong client communication in a deadline-driven environment.
