Retirement Counselor

Position Title: Retirement Counselor
*Camas WA & Plano, TX

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking Retirement Counselors to serve as the primary relationship managers for retirement plan sponsor clients. In this role, the Retirement Counselor owns the client relationship from onboarding through long-term servicing, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and retention.

This position focuses on retirement plan consulting, fiduciary support, and participant education for plan sponsors and their employees. The Retirement Counselor works closely with plan sponsors, recordkeepers, and TPAs to support plan governance, investment oversight, and participant engagement while helping clients navigate the complexity of retirement plan administration and fiduciary responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for retirement plan sponsor clients and maintain ongoing communication throughout the client lifecycle.
  • Participate in late-stage sales efforts and transition new clients into long-term service relationships after contracts are signed.
  • Review retirement plan design and recommend improvements throughout the client relationship.
  • Consult with plan sponsors to identify retirement plan investment goals and assist with the development and maintenance of Investment Policy Statements.
  • Provide guidance regarding recordkeeper and TPA selection and vendor management.
  • Oversee retirement plan amendments, recordkeeper installations, asset transfers, and investment lineup updates.
  • Design and implement retirement plan participant education programs and enrollment campaigns.
  • Travel approximately 40% of the time to meet with plan sponsors and conduct participant education sessions and one-on-one meetings.
  • Provide retirement plan governance consulting and assist plan sponsors with regulatory and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Support plan sponsors with annual retirement plan administrative requirements and compliance considerations.
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding investment strategy updates, market outlook, and changes to investment lineups.
  • Provide fee benchmarking and other analysis to support plan sponsor fiduciary decision-making.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, recordkeepers, and TPAs to ensure proper servicing of retirement plans.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure a high level of client satisfaction and retention.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial services with experience related to retirement plans or 401(k) plan design.
  • Strong relationship management experience with ownership of client relationships.
  • Knowledge of retirement plan design, capital markets, and ERISA regulations.
  • Experience presenting retirement plan education to participants and plan sponsors.
  • Series 65 license preferred or ability to obtain upon starting the role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain financial concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze business information and communicate insights effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage travel schedules and client communications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
