Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Plan Consultant to support the growth of their retirement plan services by building relationships with financial advisors and employers while guiding them through the onboarding and implementation process. This role combines retirement plan expertise with business development and consulting responsibilities.
The Plan Consultant plays a key role in expanding the firm’s client base by working closely with financial advisors, recordkeepers, and internal teams to identify new opportunities and support client success. The ideal candidate will bring strong retirement plan administration knowledge, plan design expertise, and the ability to communicate complex ERISA and fiduciary concepts clearly while building trusted relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with financial advisors to support the growth of their retirement plan practices.
- Guide financial advisors and employers through the sales, onboarding, and implementation process for new retirement plans.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities through networking, outreach, events, and marketing initiatives.
- Deliver presentations explaining the value and capabilities of the firm’s retirement plan administration services.
- Prepare customized proposals outlining plan administration services, pricing, and implementation details.
- Manage the full sales pipeline including opportunity tracking, forecasting, and relationship management.
- Maintain accurate records of client activity and sales progress within the CRM system.
- Collaborate with relationship management teams to ensure smooth transitions from sales to onboarding and ongoing service delivery.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with financial advisors, recordkeepers, and other industry partners.
- Support advisors in retaining existing retirement plan clients when needed.
- Provide consulting guidance on plan design, ERISA regulations, and retirement plan industry trends.
- Assist advisors in evaluating recordkeeper platforms and retirement plan service solutions.
- Communicate the firm’s fiduciary services, including managed plan and 3(16) service offerings.
- Stay current on industry developments, regulatory updates, and competitive solutions in the retirement plan marketplace.
- Collaborate with internal teams including product, engineering, sales operations, and consulting leadership to improve systems and workflows.
- Assist with operational projects and initiatives that support the firm’s growth and service capabilities.
- Ensure proper handling and protection of confidential client information in accordance with company policies.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the retirement plan industry or 3–5 years in a retirement plan business development role.
- Strong background in retirement plan administration services and solutions.
- Experience with retirement plan design and the ability to discuss plan structures with clients and advisors.
- Prior experience working within a TPA environment strongly preferred.
- Experience onboarding retirement plan clients and managing implementation processes.
- Strong understanding of employer operations including payroll, compliance, and retirement plan decision-making processes.
- Experience working with financial advisors and advisor-led client relationships.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong negotiation and consultative selling abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
- Track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
- ASPPA credentials such as QKS, QKA, or QKC, or NAPA CPFA designation preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred.
