Associate Retirement Counselor

Position Title: Associate Retirement Counselor

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking an Associate Retirement Counselor to join their retirement services team supporting small and mid-sized retirement plans. This role focuses on providing client service, plan support, and investment education to plan sponsors, administrators, and participants.

The Associate Retirement Counselor works as part of a group service team that acts as the primary contact for retirement plan clients with smaller asset sizes. The role involves responding to client requests, coordinating plan administration activities, educating clients about retirement plans, and ensuring a high-quality client service experience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle inbound client requests including providing administrative support, client education, updates on investment strategy, portfolio changes, and market outlook.
  • Conduct annual plan reviews with clients and provide education regarding fiduciary responsibilities under ERISA.
  • Facilitate and coordinate retirement plan account setup including recordkeeper implementation, participant enrollment, and asset transfers.
  • Review plan committee structures and administrative policies and procedures on a recurring basis.
  • Recommend participant education and communication strategies consistent with ERISA 404(c) guidelines.
  • Present fee benchmarking and other key information to support plan sponsor fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of fiduciary audit files and document retention policies.
  • Coordinate and communicate investment-related participant disclosures.
  • Develop processes and requirements for responding to participant inquiries and requests.
  • Interface with internal teams, recordkeepers, and TPAs to ensure retirement plans are serviced properly.
  • Coordinate with external vendors such as accountants and third-party administrators as needed.
  • Support retirement plans ranging from startup plans to approximately $1M in assets under management.
  • Provide client service and education while adhering to regulatory requirements and avoiding investment advice recommendations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in asset management, retirement services, or client service roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of securities markets and investment concepts.
  • Ability to clearly explain financial and retirement plan concepts to clients.
  • Strong client service orientation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience handling complex or sensitive client situations preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to analyze information and develop thoughtful solutions.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Additional licensing or designation requirements may include obtaining or maintaining Series 65 registration or other investment adviser representative credentials.
