Job Description:
This role involves performing complex and varied tasks, including data analysis, reconciliation, and information gathering for Defined Contribution (DC) plans. The individual will manage their own book of business with minimal supervision while providing direct services to external clients. Responsibilities include reviewing, interpreting, and applying provisions of both existing and new plan documents, as well as researching new and existing regulations and procedures. The position requires a high level of independence, with discretion and judgment exercised on routine matters, while seeking guidance on more complex issues. Collaboration with team members, consultants, and management is essential to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Gathers and analyzes census data to determine eligibility for participation and contributions. Performs contribution calculations while testing to ensure compliance with regulations. Identifies issues and assists in resolving discrepancies.
- Collects and compiles necessary data from multiple investment platforms. Reconciles trust assets to participant accounts.
- Produces standard and ad hoc client reports. Prepares required government reporting forms, schedules, and attachments. Prepares notices, disclosures, and statements.
- Processes distribution requests. Reviews output of less experienced staff. Verifies vesting. Calculates the amount available for loans and hardships.
- Reviews and interprets provisions of defined contribution plan documents to properly administer plans by terms and respond to client or advisor inquiries.
- Pursues professional development and training to enhance professional skills and better understand industry regulations. Follows new developments in legislation and trends. Offers suggestions and input about existing and new plans using standard procedures and regulations. Takes a broader perspective and offers less obvious solutions.
- Works with supervisor, team members, and Operations staff to continuously improve processes, procedures, and workflow. Provides input on areas that affect own client work. Serves as a technical resource to the DC team.
- Supports supervisor, team members, management, and sales staff to establish new clients and outwardly service existing clients. Communicates directly with clients to answer questions and provide information. Attends client and professional advisor meetings.
Experience and Certifications Required:
- 3+ plus years of an A to Z administration background, preferably in a TPA environment.
- Experience working in a balance forward environment.
- Experience with Accrual Basis Accounting.
- Experience doing contribution reconciliations.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Experience with Relius or FTWilliams.
Skills Required:
- General knowledge of data analytics, statistics, and advanced mathematical calculation techniques as may be obtained with a 4-year degree in Mathematics, Business or related technical field and a minimum 3 years experience working with qualified pension and benefits plans in an analyst capacity or related technical role.
- Ability to gather and analyze data, perform mathematical calculations, identify and solve problems, and follow complex instructions.
- Ability to read and write at an advanced level to understand complex legal documents.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to internal staff and external clients and advisors in a manner that is clear and responsive to questions and issues.
- Ability to work individually and within a team. Ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software and internet literacy to perform analyses and produce professional reports and correspondence.
- Ability to learn and work with retirement plan-related system platforms and software as may be gained.

- Understanding of client’s policies, procedures, mission, goals, objectives and organization values as acquired through company handbook, written policies and on-the-job experience.
- Understanding of the Internal Revenue Code and ERISA requirements and conditions for retirement plan qualification.
- Ability to maintain designated membership in the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) as a QPA or higher credential.
