Job Description:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Health & Welfare Benefits Specialist to manage and implement group plan updates, ensuring accuracy in internal systems. In this role, you will process plan proposals, verify billing adjustments, and collaborate with internal teams to onboard new business and maintain data integrity. Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills are essential, as primary communication is via email. Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of experience in Health & Welfare benefits administration, proficiency in JIRA, Excel, and OmniPlus, and the ability to perform user acceptance testing for system updates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process group and pension plan proposals and verify that individual records are updated appropriately within the established timeframe and that the required documentation and information have been received and approved.
- Ensure correct adjustments and/or billing are reflected on invoices and monitor reports to the accuracy of plan processing.
- Collaborate with new business and benefit services teams to implement and onboard new business and plan changes.
- Research complex cases/issues while identifying, and documenting the issues and resolution in JIRA and another workflow system in a timely manner to maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Develop test cases and perform user acceptance testing to validate that results meet requirements and business needs.
- Act as a lead and subject matter expert on system processing of incoming cooperative splits, mergers, and new subgroups.
Experience and Certifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and additional experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in Health and Welfare and/or Pension Benefits.
Skills Preferred:
- Experience with defining and documenting procedures and ensuring data quality in large transactional systems.
- Knowledge of JIRA, Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, SharePoint), and OmniPlus.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
